About Alpha Pacific Navigation
Built in the South Pacific. Connected to the World
Our Story
From the Pacific Islands to the International Maritime Scene
Established in 1992, Alpha Pacific Navigation (APN) has more than three decades of experience connecting South Pacific Island seafarers with international commercial shipping opportunities. From our base in Lautoka, Fiji, we recruit and place men and women from Fiji, Kiribati, Tuvalu and other South Pacific nations with reputable international shipping companies.
Our story is deeply connected to the islands and communities we serve. The South Pacific is central to who we are, the relationships we build and the purpose behind our work. We are proud to represent a maritime workforce whose skills, resilience and dedication are shaped by generations of connection to the ocean.
We believe in recognising that strength and creating opportunities for Pacific seafarers to develop their skills, support their families and build meaningful careers at sea. Our role extends beyond filling positions. We take the time to understand our seafarers, support their development and match the right people with the right opportunities — creating value for seafarers, their families, our principals and the wider communities they come from.
Experience and Service
Operating across the South Pacific requires experience, flexibility and practical problem-solving, particularly when coordinating the movement of seafarers across dispersed island nations. APN understands these challenges and is experienced in navigating them efficiently, finding practical solutions and keeping operations moving when circumstances are demanding.
Our commitment to our principals is straightforward: dependable support, responsive service and the confidence that we will deliver. We continually seek to understand their requirements, meet high standards and provide a crewing service they can rely on.
Supporting the Next Generation
Our involvement in cadet recruitment and placement reflects our commitment to developing the next generation of Pacific maritime professionals. By connecting maritime students and cadets with opportunities for seagoing experience and international employment, we help create a pathway from maritime education to practical experience and long-term careers at sea.
Leadership
Our Managing Director, Capt. John Hensford, brings extensive international maritime experience, industry knowledge and strategic leadership to Alpha Pacific Navigation. Supporting the company’s day-to-day operations, our General Manager, Mr. Saoloto Sosene, draws on broad experience across crew management, airline operations and logistics.
Together, they provide APN with a strong combination of international maritime expertise and operational leadership, reinforcing our commitment to professional, dependable and responsive service to seafarers and international shipping principals.
Standards and Compliance
Alpha Pacific Navigation is licensed by the Government of Fiji to recruit Pacific Island seafarers and operates in accordance with the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006, and applicable industry standards.
We work with international shipping companies that maintain high standards of safety, competence and commercial performance, while seeking to place seafarers who demonstrate the same professionalism, dedication and sense of responsibility.
For more than 30 years, our purpose has remained consistent: to connect capable South Pacific Island seafarers with trusted international shipping opportunities, while contributing to the people and communities that are at the heart of our company.
